hi everyone

i was wondering if anyone had any experience in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. I am interested in going down there to teach but I wanted to know about housing. What is the best way to find a place to live? Are there apartments available to rent and affordable? What is the average cost to rent a place?

from my research it seems that the best thing to do is just get down there and start looking in person rather than trying to arrange something before i get there...is this a fair assumption?

any info in this area would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is to come here, buy the local paper, (Los Tiempos with Sunday being the best day), and there are loads of apartments listed. It's then a case of doing the rounds. Most phone numbers are estate agents/realtors and they often have quite a few properties on their books and they will take you to see them for a small fee. Prices to both rent and buy are very reasonable.

What price range are you looking at for renting? (US dollars please)

i am looking to spend around 150 - 200 USD per month, if that is a reasonable amount (i'm really not sure). i would also like to be close enough to walk to the Centro -- Ayacucho, Heroinas, 14 de Septiembre, etc. -- withouth too much of a distance.

No problem in getting a nice apartment at that price. (I assume that it's just you)

And there are loads of buses to the Centre at about 20 cents a single trip.

can you comment on acquiring furniture -- are places furnished or does everything have to be bought?

I asked around and apparently a lot of properties are rented half furnished. In other words they have most of the essentials.
