I wouldn't say that Indonesian men are unpleasant. The opposite, mostly, and they are pretty good at putting on the moves, and sometimes percieve westerners as having lots of money which might be an added incentive for hooking up a cosy romance with a cute American surfy girl or any western woman, actually. I've seen it happen several times.

Also, for the most part, Indonesian girls do not run around in bikinis, and sex before marriage is not really promoted as the ideal way 2 go. There is a perception that westerners are more free & easy in this regard.

Every woman's experience is unique, obviously, I just thought it was worth mentioning as something to be prepared for, so you've got the heads up just in case.

I just wanted to tell you that I have been living in Indonesia for one and a half years and haven't encountered any problems. Indonesian people are very friendly and hospitable. Of course men will look at you as well as women will because you are different. They may approach you and ask personal questions. Use your common sense.

By the way, I am a single woman. I am white, tall and slim. I am young and I am not ugly.
