We are an Australian/American couple looking to get married very quickly (within a month) in South America, for reasons that don't need to be explained here (no, she's not pregnant!).

We have ascertained that 'tourists' cannot get married in Argentina, and that for Bolivia you need to show proof of having lived there for 3 months. In Brazil it looks as though you can do it, but there will be a 30-day waiting period after you have handed in all your relevant documents (which must be first translated into Portuguese). This is the best of what we have found so far. Does anybody have any information on Chile, Peru, Ecuador, or any other SA countries?

Thanks.

The quickest and cheapest way would probably be to fly to Vegas for the weekend.

Forget Peru. You have to get a certificate showing you are single, then legalise the docs at the Peruvian consulate in your country, translate them, legalised them at the consulate again, Then send them here to Lima for more legailsation, then to the city where you want to get marrried, publish something in the paper, wait atleast 10 days, and hopefully then you can get married.
It's super difficult.
