Hello everybody Smile

So I was hoping to maybe get some input from people who are in or have taught in Monterrey. I am a recent TESOL grad and have a bachelor's degree, but no solid teaching experience. So I am leaving for Monterrey in two weeks and I am giving myself a month to find a teaching job. I figure worse comes to worst, I will just leave Monterrey broke and come back to the U.S.

Ok so I have been going through past postings to gain info on places I should probably stay away from, but if anyone out there can possibly give me advice on how to go about job hunting once I arrive in Monterrey--I would really appreciate it. Also, does anyone know of institutes/schools in Monterrey they would recommend working at?

Thanks for any help...

There are about 5 Harmon Halls in Mty. I am sure you can find some work at one of them, since they start new course every month. Other options might be limited, as school has already started.

You might aso try Ingles Individual, to avoid 4 weeks of uncertain training at HH.

It's a while since I saw a posting from you, Guy. Have you been hiding away in a log cabin somewhere with Thelmadatter? Very Happy

I have heard mixed reviews when it comes to II. Uncertain paychecks being one issue.

True. It depends on whether it's a franchise or corporate II

Thanks for the help so far Very Happy ...I will give Ingles Individual a try once I get to Mty--but how do you know if it's a franchise or corporate?? I figure I will also give English Now, Berlitz, and Interlingua a try too, since most schools started late August.

Ask. Most of them are franchises, I believe. That may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how strong the franchise is. If the franchisees have free reign, you may run into problems.

I agree. I worked with an II in Acapulco that was both a franchise and quite stable. I also worked with an II in Cuernavaca that was corporate and just had a real Twisted Evil in charge of HR and payroll.

If they've been around without a change in management or ownership for awhile, that might be a good sign.

Why grahamb, you wouldn't be feeling jealous or anything now, would you? If so, I expect you, as a good British gentleman, to challenge Guy to a duel Laughing

(OK the reality is that I have Guy tied up in my basement. He posts when he manages to get a finger loose once in a while Twisted Evil )
