Hi, please can someone suggest a way to find a decent apartment in Taipei - have looked on tealit everyday since we arrived and only one apartment has been any good and we missed out on that one by 2 hours.
We are staying in hostle and are going slightly crazy after being here for 2 weeks.
If anyone knows and english speaking estate agents or knws of an apartment for rent I will be forever in your debt!!!
We are looking for 1/2 bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen and living room somewhere in Taipei. Don't really want to share as we are a couple who have been living alone for 2 years so kinda used to it!
Thanks

jo

Any idea of budget? I know a great two bedroom place near Taipei 101 in a relatively new building but it is not cheap. In fact it would set you back about NTD40,000 a month inclusive of management fee and a scooter as well as underground parking and a lift. PM me if you are interested.

Other than that Tsui Mama is good for cheap places but you would need a Chinese speaker to assist you.

A good way for finding apartment, with the help of a Taiwanese friend, is to look around the schools in the area you want to live. There are often big noticeboards for apartments outside schools and parks. Most of it is in Chinese though. There are also notice boards outside foreigner restaurants.

I know a guy that is trying to start an english speaking agency for budget apartments - and you'll find that all the agents in the papers will only deal with the top end.

You need two things - a chinese speaking friend and to register at Tsuei Ma Ma Foundation.

Give them a call on 02 2365 8140 www.tmm.org.tw - They are located down a lane (lane 269 number 2, 2nd floor) in Section 3, Roosevelt Rd and they are extremely helpful - every section of taipei has about 30 listings all in budget ranges.

You need to take inyour passport to register.

Most of the notice boards around local Universities are packed full of red notices in Chinese. Nearly all of these are for rooms, apartments or room mates. Just take the numbers and start calling you will find on e that speaks English if you call several. Some of the best deals to be found for apartments are on the notice boards around universities on Taiwan.
Good Luck!

Exactly,

I was at TLI for several months studying and I saw a lot of notices go up for accommodations. Check the 3rd floor for apartment notices.

I also noticed a lot of accommodation adverts at places like Grandma Nittys in Shi Da.

Shi Da Universit Mandarin Training Centre will also have info, I'm guess, as A. has pointed out.
