I know what I find long ...the minutes waiting for a taxi in the scorching heat...5 minutes can feel like 5 hours  ...must get myself a car  |

In most...indeed, all...Gulf countries a car makes a huge difference to one's quality of life. The locals would be horrified at the thought of life without a car, so why should it be any different for expats? The Gulf is basically an autmotive society.
Even though Qatar is indeed small compared with KSA, for example, there are some interesting places to visit, such as Al Zubara Fort, Al Khor, Al Ruwais and the dunes in the south. Even getting around Doha, I found the use of a car invaluable. That part of the world is too hot, and life too short for taxi-waiting. |

Yup that just about sums it up Bebsi!  But I guess my reluctance is based on the fear of having an accident (God forbid)in a foreign country  -worth the risk though I think... |

When I left Oman the first time, I sold my car... rather foolish actually, but I thought that in Abu Dhabi I wouldn't really need one. Plenty of taxis seemed to be around... traffic... parking hassles...
Yeah right... when we could leave the college was apparently in the middle of their naptime after lunch. You could be standing out there for 15 minutes staring at the empty-of-cars corniche...
I decided to buy a car before the hot weather came back again in the spring.
