|

Hello everyone, I am in the process of applying to get my CELTA and I have been talking to a school in Brazil because that's where I am from, and they told me that it's going to take me about 4 months in order for me to get my certification (after I complete the course). The thing is that I am planning to go to Madrid right after my course which ends in the first week of February. Would anyone here would be able to tell me if the language schools in Madrid ask Prospective Employees for their certification upon hiring or if a letter as a proof that the course has been completed should do the job? From your own experiences, did you all found that you had to have the actual certificate in order to get a job?Do you also need your college diploma or it does not matter? From reading some of the postings here, I was able to see that for some people it took them about 6 weeks to get the actual certificate so I think it varies from school to school. In any event, any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. PS: Can I bugde that I will be spending 250 euros in just housing or is that unrealistic? |

250 Euros for rent seems about right, but that excludes bills. It depends on the size of the apartment and the area it's in. |

250 euros is possible but not that probable I'm afraid: a room for that price would have to be pretty grim/far outside the centre. Count on about 350 euros with bills - better to budget for the worst case, you may well be able to find something cheaper later on in the year, but right now all the Erasmus students are back and housing gets rare and expensive |

I've been working in Madrid for 3 years, and no one has ever asked to see my CELTA certificate during an interview. They often have asked where I did the CELTA program, but never wanted the certificate or even a letter from the program. However, I did the course in Madrid so I guess if they wanted to they could have called the school and asked if I actually did the CELTA there or not. Bring a letter if you're worried about it, but they should realize that you don't get the certificate the day you finish the course. As far as college diplomas, I brought mine along just in case, but the acadamies have never asked me to see it. The only time I needed it was for my current job (but that's at a university and they need copies of all their employees' diplomas). It doesn't hurt to bring it along. |
