I have just received a job offer from Media Kids Ltd. in Thailand. Has anyone worked for this organization and if so, can you provided me with some feedback?

The contract looks fairly good with the exception of the accommodations. Although they are provided, they only include a bed, sheets, blanket, fan, dresser and closet. The contract states that "accommodations do not include kitchens or cooking utensils as most apartments in Thailand do not have kitchens" Is this true? How are you supposed to eat?

I'm confused!

I know at least two people that worked for them....they won't again.

PM me and I think I can put you in touch with someone that currently, or recently worked for them.

It's probably cheaper in some ways to eat out, and if you do cook it's often done on the balcony.

Personally I'd say you're better off looking for work once you're actually IN Thailand.....IMO you'll get a better position this way.

I've also been offered a job with them. Do you mind sharing why they wouldn't work for them again.

I'm just nervous about not having anything lined up despite what I keep reading on the forums.

I have my tesol but not a degree, would it still be possible to simply find work once I arrive? Also, what about the visa? Media Kids will be taking care of this process prior to us leaving which seems like a good idea to me. Is this something I can do in Canada myself without having employment?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When are you planning on leaving chance?

Hello liannejill...

I plan to leave mid - October if I decide to accept the contract. I am in the same frame of mind as you in that I want to have a contract set in place prior to my arriving in Thailand. I guess it's a security thing.

I think (don't quote me on this) that you can only apply for a tourist visa (30 days) if you plan to go over and find a job when you get there. Then, once you find one, you have to apply for an extension.

I am going to send you a private e-mail in regards to Media Kids so we can discuss.

Later,

They should help you get a multiple entry Non-imm B. Or if they plan to get you a WP right away a single will suffice.

You don't actually need to apply for a 30 day tourist Visa (it isn't actually a tourist Visa though to be honest, it's actually called an on arrival or on entry stamp) as you're Canadian/American/English and thus automatically get 30 days on entry. You can't really get an extension on this (well maybe 5-10 days) and it can't be used to obtain a work permit.

If they won't help you to get a Non-imm B you can apply for a 60 day (extendable by a further 30 days at Immigration for 1,900 Baht) tourist Visa from your local Thai Embassy/Consulate. In theory a proper tourist Visa can be converted to a Non-imm B so you can obtain a work permit.

liannejill/chance

Will you include me in the loop. I received an offer from Media Kids too. I prefer to have things set up before going to another country. And I only have my TEFL and AA degree. Which does not put me at the top of the list for job offers.

They're contracts are five months I recall. The one begins in October and the other in February I think.

Thank you kindly.

Yup, sure will. The more feedback we recieve, the better prepared we will be to make the right decision.

Welcome adventuramust!

If it's a 5 months contract I'd say the chances of getting a WP are pretty slim to non-existent.

Get a tourist Visa (if they won't help you get a Non-imm B) with as many entries on as possible.

Chance,

I was new once and I didn't have a clue and people helped me, so it's nice to be nice and return the favour.

liannejill and adventureamust...

Have either of you made a decision on Media Kids? Are you going to take the job or have you found other job prospects?

Just curious!

I'm hoping to make a decision this week...

Cheers,

Hi Kelly, I have decided, after much contemplation to go with Media Kids. I'm signing a four month contract so I figure how bad could anything be for four months, especially when you are in Thailand.

I think it will be an amazing experience whichever way you decide to go. Good luck and let me know what you end up deciding.

I'm still with Chance. If not this time, I think the next one starts in February. You do have a point, how bad can four months be in Thailand.

Lianne and adventureamust,

I am waiting to sell my condo. If I can leave before November then I will sign for this semester, if not, then I will be going for the next...it's all up in the air right now.

Good luck Lianne, i'm sure that your adventure will be all that you want it to be and more.

Who knows, maybe we can all meet up in Thailand sometime in the next few months!

Cheers,

Ahh you read my mind. Wouldn't it be great if we could all meet up. I need to see how quickly I can dispose of items as well. But it would wonderful if we all caught up to each other.

Definetly PM me when you girls arrive. I am flying out October 10th and am off to Chaiyaphum province in November!

Good luck, hope to hear from you.
