I'm just curious. I'm not trying to start a thread for bashing others' nations.

If yours isn't here, please don't take offense. There wasn't room for all of them.

There are lots of responses, but I just voted 'Somewhere else' and didn't think I should make a big song and dance about Steiner not including my country, as he'd already apologised for that! So I didn't post......until now.....

I grew up in Rangoon--my mother was a 15 year old French prostitute my father an eccentric alcoholic who claimed to have invented the question mark........OOPS that was Dr. Evil....or ESLGURU I cant remember now its all one big blur...Actually I was raised by lobsters in Eastern Canada.....That is why we were such big Cincinnati (sp) Reds fans at the time.

Interesting poll.
BTW,lobsters are only red after they have been cooked.Usually they are green or a light shade of blue.
Eastern Canadian lobsters are the best imo. Yummy. Very Happy

There seems to be quite a few Scots here. Pity the UK wasn't split up, so we could see just how many there are. Cool

Like dduck, I hold a UK passport, albeit reluctantly. Scot47's another exile.
Any more out there?

I too thought it was interesting. However, I have dual citizenship and know many others who do too. I could only vote for one.

I thought about dual citizenship, too, but you can only do so much with a poll. Feel free to elaborate (that goes for you Elswherites, too). We'd like to know.

I'm a dual passport holder (Canadian and Irish). I registered under "Elsewhere" as a default.

Well, I was born in England though I'd rather be thought of as European... pretentious I know but I don't have a shred of national pride. My students find this odd until I point out what passes for 'culture' here. I don't pretend to be an ambassador for England for their benefit either, though I'm going abroad to teach in September and was wondering whether it's expected of you to be a kind of 'ambassador'?

Any thoughts?

Sort of depends on your destination. Some people will know where britain is, others will have a vaguer idea, just like we have a vague idea of what it means to be Indonesian, Nepali, etc. I think you are an ambassador for your country, but I'm probably naive!

Admiral, youre quite a character. I was wondering how to describe you and it came to me.... you're the classic... trixter!!

Trickster is much more than sly thieving, cunning tricks and funny jokes! He is a creator and a destroyer at least as much as he is a clown and a thief. He is also a liminal figure, something "betwixt and between." Trickster has a dual nature, being half animal and half divine. As Carl Jung writes, "He is both subhuman and superhuman, a bestial and divine being..." And these aren't even his fundamental attributes! According to Jung, Trickster's "chief and most alarming characteristic is his unconsciousness." He is not evil, but rather "does the most atrocious things from sheer unconsciousness and unrelatedness." Jung also sees in him "an approximation to the figure of a savior." The folklorist Stith Thompson called him not just "a creature of greed, lust, and stupidity," but also "a beneficent being, bringing culture and light to his people."
