I have searched for positions in Shanghai but these seem to be advertised much less than jobs in other parts of China. Can anyone refer me to a site or two with jobs in Shanghai ?

Shanghai is one place where applicants way outnumber positions, at least as far as government school jobs go.
Look at some places still advertising on www.chinatefl.com although I suspect some of these are already filled, as the ads stay up for ever. For private language schools and corporate look at the English teacher classifieds in www.thatsmagazines.com [Shanghai edition]. Many of these places can give you work, but not a visa, so be wary.
You're limiting yourself a bit....I live in "Shanghai", but its 90 minutes to downtown. It doesn't take much longer from Suzhou, which is infinitely more attractive than my 'burb. Maybe widen your horizons a little!
