Interesting article, DMB. The racist perspective is always underlying, probably goes without saying in the US. I've quit watching the news, but even on int'l CNN, I noticed that if they showed white people, it was usually them on dry ground crying and pleading for missing family members or pets or whatever, but if they showed black people, it showed them slogging about in the muck in what amounted to Shantytown-- I've yet to see a human interest interview with a black person.
On the other hand, the media is colorblind to the yahoos, the so-called 'stragglers' who refuse to leave their homes, and they defend their refusal in 'English' for the cameras... The South must be a strange place. I keep thinking about 'Deliverance.' |

Michael Moore has said that he will make a film about Katrina. Do you think Bush will be shown in good light? |

I can't remember where I read it(probably the bbc) Local authorities in the UK are wanting to prepare for natural disasters such as Katrina. When was the last time the UK had a disaster on the same scale? Never. Shouldn't the money be put towards the NHS or something similar? |

It might be end of our days as we know it, but don't worry. The Global Industrial Market Machine will keep Christmas alive long after we've drowned in toxic sludge... |

Theses ARE the End Days. But it is still your patriotic duty to boost the economy by engaging in mindless consumerism.

Ironically, shortly after 9/11, they actually were telling us this-- the gov't to the media on down. In my town, they were selling big shopping bags with American flags emblazoned on them saying something to the effect of, 'Don't let the terrorists think they've won! Buy things and support America today!' |

But buying things is good surely?
I mean why would people not want to buy things? What with third world exploitation making things cheaper all the time. |
