Anyone got little tykes with them? What are your experiences with schools, child care, etc etc....

My 12 month old twins were born here in Mexico. I get free day care through the Mexican Social Security sytem (okay I pay Social Security Tax, but I pay that if I use the services or not).

I will admit, I get shivers when I think about them starting school. We live in a small town, and the options are few. We just might move before they start primary school!

Speaking from experience of sending kids to school in that same small town, Melee, I would have more than shivers.

Oaxacan education has to be some of the lowest quality in Mexico, and Mexico doesn't rate too highly on the scale of things worldwide, either.

Not the worst of the worst, but getting pretty close to the bottom of the barrel.

You're both right, speaking on a national level. If one wants a decent education for younger kids, you have to look around at private schools...and they aren't cheap...certainly not available to we who work as teachers anyway.

Perhaps living in a border town, you could send your kids across to the US? I think this is common in Laredo.

Or you can find a job at a private school and see if they will cover your kid's tuition.

From what I have found most children of teachers seem to do better in school and are able to make more of their education.
