Does anybody know anything about this city. All I can find online is regarding its proximity to DF and hundreds of hotel listings?
Any information out there? |

Naucalpan is effectively a suburb of Mexico City, located just north of it. It sits in the same Valley, but in the State of Mexico.
Transportation in and out of Naucalpan is nightmarish if you have to commute into DF for work at all. Rents out there are pretty good. Pollution is some of worst in the world as the area is heavily industrial, though it has some quiet residential areas. |

Thanks for the quick reply. Naucalpan is the sister city to Calgary, Alberta (where I am from) and I have found a non-teaching job there in economic development. I have tried to stay away from the DF for medical reasons. Now I have to figure out if I stop teaching in a great city to go for more money in Mexico.
Would the pollution compare to that in the DF in the early 90's at all? |

I'm from Ottawa myself...g'day to you, eh?
I'm surprised to hear Naucalpan is sister city to fair Calgary.
There's practically no difference between DF and Naucalpan, if medical reasons are a big concern. Erasing the political boundary, Nau is pretty much IN Mexico City.
I arrived here in late 2000. The pollution has noticeably dropped since then, and from what I'm told, it is far better than in the mid-nineties when it was at its worst. An example...there have been no smog alerts this year yet, and I think there was only one or two last year.
However, certain areas of the city get more smog than others, and Naucalpan is in one the worst areas, north of the city. The cleanest areas tend to be in the south of Mexico City. Here's a link for current air quality data. http://www.sima.com.mx/valle_de_mexico/pollutio.htm
Perhaps living in another area...such as Lomas Verdes, Tlalnepantla, or Pedregal and commuting up to Nau would be viable, if you have a car. You would be going against traffic in and out each day, though the commute is still rough. |
