Hey..
I've been out of Japan for the past two years. My Visa (sponsored by NOVA in 2003) is set to expire in March, 2006. Can I get a job in Japan on it before it expires, and will immigration give me any grief at the airport?
I was hoping that I could use that as an asset to a potential employer, as they could wait until I arrived in Japan then renew my visa...maybe it would save them some paperwork since they wouldn't have to begin the process from scratch. Am I way off-base here?? |

Do you have a re-entry visa?
If not your visa will be cancelled on re-entry. |

| Yes, I got a multiple entry stamp before I left. I left Japan once, came back, then headed home. |

If you have a valid re-entry visa you should be OK, but immigration is now clamping down on visa 'spongers' people doing work outside their visa status or not doing jobs their visa allows them to.
You may have a valid visa when you come back but you have to find an employer willing to sponsor you for your visa. many now want people with a valid work visa but dont want to sponsor some one full time. You are limiting your options by coming back just before your visa expires and expecting to find another sponsor before it expires, especially when you have been out of the country a couple of years.
Immigration may also require a letter of release from NOVA before your new sponsor can sponsor your visa. |
