|

I read in an earlier post that prices have recently gone up, quickly, in Buenos Aires but I couldn't find any specifics on actual prices. Does anyone know if a room or apartment (shared facilities okay) in an interesting neighborhood (young people, near good public transportation and nightlife) for around US $100 - 200 is feasible? Thank you!

room you MIGHT be able to do for 200 if it is shared.
I think $100 is almost nonexistant, and I doubt $200 is going to get you something all that nice. |

Thanks for the reply sqwerl.
By "not all that nice," do you mean the apartment's size/looks or the location? Not to sound like a tool, but aren't there any cool, inexpensive student neighborhoods in BA?
I guess my main priorites are safety and location: I don't want my stuff to get stolen and I'd like to live near other students. I don't really care about the size of my building or what it looks like. I lived in a dilapidated apartment in eastern Germany that probably would have been condemned in the US and among other things, relied on coal ovens for heating and only allowed 2 minute showers, but the location more than made up for it. |

all that nice is an old building, not a good neighborhood, etc.
I'm renting a room in a family house right now for $190. It is cheaper the more people that live there.
if you are renting for two years, maybe you could get something for that price and it would be reasonable. |

Hi Anonio....if you rent a room in the neighborhoods above, expect to pay btw u$s 200 / u$s 300 a month aprox.
There are neighborhoods that are less expensive...Flores, Floresta, Boedo, San Cristobal...etc, that are ugly from my subjective point of view (sorry, no offense if anyone lives there) and more dangerous.
suerte. |

found it on verbum.biz . They put you in contact with people who offer a room in their house to live. It's a host family, basically. |

You don't have to study through them to get a room? That's awesome, I'll look into it.
Thanks for your answers. |

A friend of mine was telling me about some "pension" in Capital Federal where a friend of his lives, and he pays $20 pesos/day .. that's $600 pesos/month ... so about $200 American. You get your own room and it includes all expenses. I think the bathrooms are shared.
Sounds decent to me.
I'll let you know more when I arrive. I'm flying in next week .. thank God. I am so tired of staying at my parents. I've been here the last month while I've been getting things in order. They're driving me crazy ... |

anonio.
I don't know if you're familiar with the city, so, here's a link to a neighborhood map of Bueno Aires http://mapa.buenosaires.gov.ar/sig/index.phtml
It's in spanish but you can zoom in and out.
As in any other part of the world best areas are the most expensive.
Here's a list of Ok neihborhoods, of courese this is totally subjective but most people will agree with mee.
Palermo
Barrio Norte
Recoleta
Belgrano
Nuez
Villa Urquiza
Villa Devoto
Villa del Parque
Puerto Madero
Saavedra
Villa Pueyrredon
All of these you'll be able to locate them in the map.
You will also find more neighborhoods in the same map.
Depending on the area and type of aprtment with USD 200 you'll get a lot or a little.
Eg. I am paying USD 260 for a 3 bedrooma apt. in Villa Devoto area, great neighborhood full of parks and houses with gardens. Now if you move downtown for that same money you'll get a studio apt.
So as you can see it all depends on what you want.
Cheers

I think from what I'veseen so far ('vebeen here for2 months) it's easy to geta shared flat in a nice neighbourhood,i e.Palermo,San Telmo, Recoleta Abasto etc for around AR$500-$600 sharing that is. I've already seen a few. Unfornately thats still too expensive for me!!! Anyone know of any roomsat the AR$300-400 mark?
Thanks

I'm not being funny, but you have to love these
'have you got anything in Palermo for 200 bucks
a week?' yeah right! the best part of the city and
you want to save a bit of cash but get around as
well... call me simplistic (I don't mind... I've been
called worse!) I think Palermo is the last place I would
live if I was on any kind of budget. Or Puerto Madero,
Recoleta etc..
At the end of the day if you are paying an extra couple of pesos
for your medialunas to paying more using the subte to getting
to far away workplaces by using more than one line, It is all
going to add up. I don't know about anyone else but the places
I would live are Cabalitto (central, pretty good property prices,
good public transport access, good shopping, access to sporting
facilities and it isn't Boca though some parts are a bit rough and ready) and Castro Barros (nice, near the boxing, central) I thought personally Bodeo is allright. The only trouble I got there is off some mad cop off calle santander.
Seriously, if you are on a budget, forget about Recoleta and Palermo
but then who listens to their uncle Carlos anyway! |

Would those two Argentines be willing to live with 'un maricon'? |
