Hey, I don't doubt it. I personally know a couple of you over there but the truth is one of my friends isn't even a native English speaker nor does he have a TEFL or equivalent certificate, but he is also working for you over there. I hear Brent is starting his own TEFL course, next Monday in fact just for his teachers who are not qualified.
So, sure many of you are qualified, but the truth is not all of you..
I don't mean to burst your bubble.

Being a nonnative speaker doesn't make you not a good teacher. The teachers at Norteamericano are fabulous (generally), and not that many of us are native speakers.

It's true that Curtis started without a clear methodology vis a vis TEFL. They had a UCLA (I think) linguist design a program for them, and that's what they used when I taught there. There are lots of administrators at schools who don't know squat about ESL. If Brent is going to a TEFL course, that will just make the methodology there stronger. Curtis is not a bad shop. They give you classes, don't put you in bad situations, are reliable, pay well and you get paid. There are lots of other schools in Santiago that can't say half of that.

Really, I have no connection with the school. Just wanted to say there are some really bad ones out there, and in my opinion, this is not one of them.

the international house collective or co op or whatever it is that is replacing IH in Santiago since it sort of folded a few months ago is hiring people with CELTA certificates. A friend of mine is working there and has 16 hours with them. That's pretty darn good.

Sorry, that I haven't thanked you all sooner, but I lost track of my goals for going to Santiago, Chile; however, now i'm back on track and ready to get back into gear. Well, I will be coming for a check out and visit in October for a week (any suggestions on hotels/ hostels, tours, places to go, and people to meet - contacts/ prospects, etc) Sorry for all the questions... but I truly decided that this is what i want to do. So, I've decided to come for a visit in October and then plan to move there for the new semester at the end of December....

Hi everyone!
Im also new at this message board, and its in fact the first I've participated ever....so bear with me please. My current goal is to relocate to Santiago, Chile. I recently graduated with a double major: marketing and Spanish. I would like to find a job relative to my marketing career. If not I will give the teaching english a try. I've applied to a few companies that deal with international business, with no replies. If anyone has any suggestions, contacts, or encouragement....much appreciated. I have been to Chile three times prior....I have the only real love I've ever had waiting there for me. Thanks for putting up with the long story, and hopefully I will hear from you all soon.

I just got here Sept 1st, no almost no Spanish, and have been trying to find a job teaching english (just got hired by a school last week). Anyway, I think from my research I did before coming I learned that you may not be able to find job postings online like you could in the US. With teaching english, everything i read said there�s not much online and the best way to do it is to just buy a ticket and come down here. So...it is a little bit of a risk but if you have someone to stay with, which it sounds like you do, maybe you should try it out. Also, go to tandemsantiago.cl, they are a language school but have a list of internships you can apply for. They are unpaid, which sucks, but I think you�d be able to find something on there that would relate to marketing and that demands a good command of spanish, which it sounds like you have. I�d recommend going that route personally because I worry it might be hard to get hired by a company due to VISA laws, etc.

it is indeed hard to find jobs while not in chile, but there ARE websites with postings. some will specify whether or not you have to be in the country to apply to them, but i did a ton of research and here are the websites that i have found that have jobs advertised. you set up a resume much like an american job recruit website (like monster). most won't hire sight unseen, but you never know.

of course, most of them are based in LatAm so they're only useful if you read Spanish.

Thanx for answering my post.... Wasn't sure if anyone used it anymore.
jaja... Im planning on becoming certified as a TEFL english teacher in addition to my other majors. I think that if nothing else works out that its a start. Did your institution require that you were already certified? Hopefully everything is working out for you down there. Out of curiosity, why did you decide Santiago to begin working? the snow? Hopefully everything works out and I'll be down there shortly....if not im thinking asia.
