Hi all,
For some reason I can't post on the Korean job forum so I'm resorting to the general Asia forum instead.

I'm considering teaching English in Korea (as well as some other countries) What should I expect in a job offer?

I'm 36 and married (if that makes any difference) I have a B.S. degree in Sociology. I don't have a TESOL, TEFL or CELTA but I have a certificate to teach ESL and adult education in Arizona. I've also taught ESL and citizenship for over 10 years.

With that, what do you think I could negotiate for in a contract?

Did you teach those topics in the public schools? If so, take a serious look at international schools.

To me - your certificate to teach ESL in Arizona means a whole lot more than a four week certificate (forgive me CELTA fans!).

Do register and ask on the Korea forums. In reality though - you'll not be able to negotiate for much. They always post jobs like there is a wage range - but generally speaking they are usually only willing to offer the bottom of the range unless, for some reason, you are exceptional. Even then, they may just want the cheapest teacher than can find.

Thanks for the info.
No, I havn't taught in public schools. I've always taught for refugee resettlement programs. Does that make a big difference?

Also, how do I register seperately for the Korean forum? There is no option to register and when I attempt other round about ways of doing it (such as going to another forum, etc) it says I'm already a user. I havn't seen any other registration prompts.

Thanks

I'll try to get the registration link for you. Give me a few hours.

Thanks,

I guess there is no real link. Korean Forums require a note to Dave Sperling - of course you'll need to give your username.

Here's the link to the Korean forums sticky on the NEWBIE Forum:
