Also, is Haikou a good place to check out for a month or so, if Sanya doesn't work out?

No teaching jobs exist in Sanya. There is a tourism college down there that has foreign teachers, but they are not authorised to hire foreigners. They get you an F visa under the pretence that their school will soon have permission, but that never happens. There are also a few foreigners down their that teach at some of the hotels and a few at the schools. These foreiners have visa's granted as business investors. They are rich people who have shown that they have enough money to start a business, get the visa but then they just chill in Sanya and do some teaching!
There is also a Kiwi down there with a flower farm, great guy, but he does not teach!
With regards to Haikou, different story. Quite a few schools and Universities here that employ foreigners. If you're interested in getting something in Haikou, then being here would definately be an advantage.
If you plan to come down here let me know via a PM and I may be able to get you something in Haikou.
We could also maybe shoot down to Sanya and I can introduce you to the boys down there and if you are willing to work without the correct documentation, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
I have spoken to the local PSB in Sanya and they have told me that the poeple in Sanya rely almost totally on tourism. That being said, there are really only two tourism seasons down there. The winter(spring festival) season and the summer holiday season. The rest of the year there is nothing in terms of income for the locals, and that is why they wont give permission for any institution to employ foreigners cause the people can not afford to send their kids to a school that has foreigners. They are 'too poor"

Thailand does appear to be more appealing, unless Haikou is also a cool place? What do you think of Haikou klasies

Klasies is correct about the private schools in Sanya not being able to grant the Z visas. So, if you just want to work for a couple months, you can probably find a job down there pretty easily, and just have your F visa.

However, Tongzhi (SP?) University (the one currently in Wuzhishan) is opening up a branch in Sanya and will eventually move their entire campus over there. They usually hire 3 or 4 teachers, so they may have an opening, but as I recall, you don't have a Bachelor's Degree, so you wouldn't qualify for that job.

The 5-star hotels in Sanya will pay a Chinese person with good English skills around 2000 yuan a month plus food and lodging to teach English to their staff, and they might be open to hiring a foreigner. However, many of them hire foreigners as managers, and they do double service as English teachers (in other words, they have qualifications in areas other than just teaching).

No I don't have a bachelor's, but I have a TEFL, 2year dip and experience. This is China. Is that B.A thing really enforced.? My experience says no.

Btw, i have an L visa (not F).

The 5-star hotel thing sounds perfect. My background is in Journalism (but I've managed employees before). How hard could it be? After all, this is China.

Should i just show up and hotel hop until I find something I like? Perhaps I should email the hotel manager. All I need is contact info. Is there a list of available and interested Sanya hotels anywhere?

I tried looking. Finding email addresses for 5 star Sanya hotels is easier said than done. Sheesh! I'd like to send them an inquiry email to start.

Why don't you help people help you.
Outline in detail your experience in China, your background in Journalism.
All these things will give people an idea of what to do. If you back things up a little instead of making sketchy claims people, might be more inclined to give you specific help, point you in the right direction etc.
You're asking a lot. You want a place that won't tie you down with a contract, or requirea Z visa, but will provide accomodation. What do they get in return?

there is perhaps no problem with you as a human being, stormrider, but you definitely have a huge attitudinal shortcoming. I am not going to call you names as you have so gracelessly done in this thread, but I am going to speak my mind now.

You have an unforgiveable entitlement mentality that defines almost all that come to foreign places imagining the world is open to native English speakers only. That being a native English speaker is no qualification per se is hard to grasp for people fresh out of college, but it is a fact of life.
If you throw such temper tantrums in any classroom you are going to last not one week, boy!
Learn manners, and take your time learning them. And during the same period of time - which will take you many months if not years - learn a useful trade!
Teaching is not your kettle of fish!
