ak girl,
I agree with the other posters, go to Korea or Japan.
You will need either a Master's degree, or TEFL certification and 3-4 years teaching experience to work in the United Arab Emirates, and if you're a female, you would have trouble finding work in Saudi Arabia, so you can rule those out for now.
A lot of people also say Taiwan, but I disagree. Simply because my fiance and I lost soooo much money while we were there.
Hong Kong, as another poster mentioned, is variable, just like Taiwan.
So your best bets for guaranteed monthly income, right now, are Korea and Japan.
Japan has high set up costs. You would be better off working in Korea first, paying off some of your loan, and then saving up to get kick-started in Japan, where you can make good money also.
Korea's quality of life and employers can be highly variable, which is why many people like myself want to move on to Japan after awhile. However, in 8 months in Korea previously, my fiance was able to pay off $1200-$1500 American a month in debt (maybe $10-$12,000 total.) That was just in 8 months. I do not enjoy the quality of life, though I enjoy it better than Taiwan's. You may have to work long hours and heat to death in the summer, but they will pay for your airfare and accomodation so the set up costs are virtually nill and you can start repaying your student loan right away. Then, if you dislike Korea, you can go home, or set aside a sum of money for Japan, where you can still save but the quality of life is better.
Sorry if I sound redundant but I'm so sleepy-I'm about to go to work

WOW! $5000 in loans I am soooooo jealous. You would have to add another zero to that figure to make it the same as mine. |

I'm a newbie to the ESL thing. I'm wondering about paying off student loans while teaching. Has anyone done this? Is it reasonable to expect to be able to pay off a loan while teaching abroad? I don't have huge debt but enough to worry about. Thanks. |
Where did you take the loans from? Thta is, where did you study? If it was the Uk then you have no need to fear; you never have to pay back a single penny if you never work in the UK. (Why do you think there are so many TEFLers....?!) |
