Hello everyone,
I'm new to this board but I do plan to use it quite frequently. I am planning on coming to Spain(Madrid or Barcelona) in February of 2006. I am planning on looking for both a job and a place to live once i arrive. I am a Canadian( with an EU passport), I also have my teachers degree as well as 2 years teaching ESL in Asia. I would love your opinion about the chances of finding a job in February( I know that January would be much better to come). Also an idea of how much start up money I should bring over to tide me over for a couple of months if my job search does not go well. Thank you in advance for all and any information or suggestions that you could give me! |

Advice from someone who hasn't been to Spain in almost 20 years. Go to Moore's bar on a Monday night, I'm sure you'll get lots of help, info, leads |

Youll be fine getting work, there are always new courses starting up if you look around hard enough, but may be a bit slow to fill up your schedule. Flat hunting should be a bit easier too, as the rush will be over. In terms of how much cash to bring, bring as much as possible: the money here isnt amazing: Id say youd need a couple of thousand euros saved/available on the plastic - dont forget, during the summer months there is very little, if any work here, although as an EU passport holder youll be able to go to the UK to teach summer camps to tide you over.
As dmb quite rightly pointed out though, come down to our pub quiz on a Monday night at Moores when you get here, and Ill introduce you to everyone so you can get some decent leads. |
