Hey everyone --
My plane tickets are purchased, and I'm heading down on Monday night. I arrive at the crack of dawn on Tuesday. Thank you so much to everyone who's provided me with loads of information. It's helped a lot.
My boyfriend's going to pick me up at the airport, and I'll be staying in Quilmes near his house at first just to get orientated. There are only two hotels in Quilmes ... a really expensive one (like $110 pesos/night) and a not so expensive one (like $35 pesos/night). I'm staying at the non-expensive one, which I've been told is mostly for unmarried couples and/or hookers looking for a place to f-ck ... hope the sheets aren't disgusting ...
If it's a rat hole, I'll look for a hotel outside of Quilmes.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting some of you at the Asado. Thanks for all the helpful posts.
Hasta entonces,
Jonathan |

Good luck mate, ignore the first 3 weeks and
let it all wash over your head. Argentina takes
some getting used to. Buenos Aires takes more
getting used to... don't let anything wind you up and
just try to adapt to your surroundings... let us know
how it all goes! |

Jonathan,
Well you'll be living in the southern suburbs, Quilmes is located at 30 kms south of Buenos Aires, it's a nice area, but I hope you know how to drive with gears, because the commute it ain't a perk!
Anyways a little bit of history.
The name Quilmes comes from the natives that use to live there, they were relocated in that area after bringing them from the northern areas of our country.
On also, Quilmes its home to the Quilmes Brewery which I am certain you'll come to experience "Quilmes Beer".
Well, have a safe flight!

I'm going to try to look for work in Quilmes first so that I don't have to endure the long commute from Quilmes to Capital Federal every day (but I actually really love driving cars with stick shifts). Of course, this all depends on whether I like Quilmes ... if I don't like it, then I won't be living there. |

Congrats on your rapidly approaching date of arrival man. I arrive Thursday morning and I am really stoked. I'll be in Belgrano for the first month before moving into an apartment closer to downtown. Let me know if you want to get together (in the city of course),
safe journey,
