I've been in this field for a bit now. I have never been ripped off by an employer. I have worked at places that have been slagged off here before, and places that haven't.Have I just been in the right place at the right time or do we make our own luck? Positive and negative responses appreciated. |

I have been ripped of recently. But I was expecting it, so there you go. I haven't had a major problems though. I like Istanbul and it's inhabitants. No complaints here. |

I've never worn eye liner in the classroom. Strictly for special occasions.
Did you know that I've............. |

Perhaps you haven't been lucky but are easy to get along with. Turkish folks respond well to those who let it all roll off like water on that duck's back.
In Turkey, the easy going get it easier.
Are you easy going, dmb? |

That's a good point. I don't spend my time comparing Turkey to my Home country all the time, so I get along pretty well.

you have been reported to my g/f.
good point tekirdag. getting pissed off and shouting at people doesn't win many friends or solve problems.
I'm sure many of you have been in Turkish offices. They are alot more chilled out with alot more tea drinking with none of beatching backstabbing that I remember from summer temp office work back in the UK. I guess this sort of ties in with the excuse or reason thread |

When I first came to Turkey I was like many newcomers in that I lost my patience and got angry at the Turkish staff. "Why are there rats in my flat?" "Why is there no electricity?!" "Why is the water cut?!"
Valid questions but I got nowhere with them. I learned to ask everything with a smile on my face and in an apologetic tone, like "come on, do me a favor". It works like a charm. Worked well in Korea, too. |

It was a place called British English in Şişli. Heard of it? It was a du um ump! There weren't many foreign teachers and because we were all having such a hard time at that school, we stuck together like frightened puppies in a corner. |

Yes! the flat was a real find. It had no furniture other than 7 sofas that turned into beds. Every bedroom was also a livingroom! Nifty. |
