I'm enjoying a fast internet connection today so bear with my random posts (thoughts I wouldn't ordinarily bother to post)

The Toltecs are the ancient "great" civilization, that most the other not as ancient big cultures claim to be decented from. Like our ancient greeks, they are often very romantized, concidered the pinicle of arts and culture. They are the original builders of Teotihuacan. There is a "new age" movement to reserect their philosophy that is based on the idea of the smoky mirror. That the world is a smoky mirror, the smoke prevents is our cultural constraitings that like smoke are not solid but prevent us from seeing what is true.

Hmm...interesting. sounds similar to Plato's cave allegory.

I didn't know the Toltecs built Teotihuacan. I thought that was unknown.

In my History of Mexico class, which I'm taking right now, my professor and also the book mentions that the orgins of Teotihuacan are unknown and that after the fall of this stronghold, the area was breached by many nomadic groups ,among these the Toltecs. Not long after the invasion of this area, the Toltecs moved on and built the city of Tula.

However, in my opinion, I'm sure the Teotihuacanos had contact with the Toltecs before the fall of the city. Who knows? Maybe the Toltecs were forced to work for them and did help them build the city. You never know what tribes the Teotihuacanos had control over. It's all up for debate.

I'll shut up now with my little history lesson. Embarassed

You'll do no such thing! This is history that needs to be told, lest it fade into a mere smoke-song-and-dance routine for the gawking tourists.

You know, I find that few Mexicans I speak with know much about their own history. I have had more than one express their surprise that I as a foreigner know more about certain things than they do.
