For non-Turkish posters, I guess-Choose from 0-10.
0 means you haven't even visited turkey.
1 means you are here but have never eaten a simit.
...
9 means you are learning Turkish, saw the air with your hand when you talk angrily, and wear plastic slippers in your home.
10 You speak awesome Turkish more comfortable here inTurkey than anywhere else.

I was too lazy too add meanings to 2-8. Any ideas? I figure I am 8 1/2. (I hate terlik.)Wink

It's hard to notice how Turkified you are until you either a) go home, or b) are suddenly surrounded by a lot of yabancı who just got here. I'd say I'm getting weird but in a different way from before I came.

I'm definitely not into terlik. Or doilies. Or the kuafr. I don't think the world should come to a screeching halt when someone is ill, and I enjoy drinking cold things in all weather. Also leaving the windows open. And going around with wet hair.

That being said, I've caught myself in the last several weeks saying 'feeneesh' for 'finish,' and just generally overusing that word. I've also developed some problems about inappropriate use of present continuous and past tense. And I've become oddly self-conscious while wearing v-neck tops. It's all very embarassing.

dmb, are you self-conscious about wearing v-neck tops? Laughing

I'm not married to a Turk, so I think that makes a difference in how much I feel Turkified. I don't have to deal with in-laws, which is challenging even in the same culture. I would say I am an 8, though, as my Turkish is confident, but not always correct or good. I'm good at the street culture, handy in Beyoglu.

I am wearing a turtle neck and long skirt today, and on the way to work I bought a peynirli poğaa and muttered allahallah at bad drivers who sideswiped me. I will go drink tea soon.

I'm wearing a polo neck. What's the difference between a polo neck and a Turtle neck? Anyway I'm not really that Turkified at all.

Other than the fact I can communicate everything I need to say by either tuting, hitting my chest, and kung-fu chops.

And thankyou means no

Hey, don't use the red face smiley! ( Embarassed ) Nothing wrong with a 9.5, unless it's an earthquake!
