I know that this pass is supposed to be only for foreign tourists, but has anyone been successful in obtaining and using an unlimited JR pass on a working visa?
According to japan-guide:
Quote: |
Only foreigners who stay in Japan on a temporary visitor visa (and Japanese nationals with permanent residence outside of Japan), are eligible to use a Japan Rail Pass. |
With the wording in the above passage, I wonder about "permanent residence"... could that mean I could use my parents address in the States or something like that? I've heard of people being able to use the unlimited JR pass without a temporary visitor visa before, and I'm just wondering if the stories are true or not. |

I believe they usually check passports, so don't get your hopes up. |

When you arrive at one of the few stations that actually validate the coupon you get for it, they ask you for your passport. So basicly you can't. After that, nobody ever asked me for my passport the 2 different times I've travelled in Japan with it. Many stations especially in rural Japan don't even know what the heck it is and stare at it in wonderment. Good investment for travel only. |
