I am coming to China by the end of October. Is it better to arrange a job or show up and look? I have read the forum and understand this is not the best time to arrive, but could anyone point me in the direction of good schools that may be hiring anyway? If i arrive without a job, could anyone recommend a decent but less than $30 u.s. a day hotel that is centrally located in either shenzhen or guangzhou. I can afford to live for a couple months while i look. I think universities may be best while starting out. Is this correct? How do you check an employers credentials regarding their ability to grant residence permits? How about accomodation? I wouldn't want to live in a dorm or share a bedroom.
I think i understand the visa situation and things to expect. I am qualified but do not have tefl or tesol cert. I do have two years esl experience and two years high school english teacher in Los Angeles.
I might also consider coastal cities if someone can make a good case. Perhaps Qingdao, Hangzhou, or somewhere. I like the idea of being close to Hong Kong though.
If anyone can offer advice on anything it would be greatly appreciated. Also, where is a good place to meet FTs once i arrive?
Thanks |

Yes, there are guest houses and hotels in both Guangzhou and Shenzhen that cost less than RMB 200 a night
From 15 through 30 this month room rates will be doubled, though, due to the Canton Trade Fair being held. It's going to be a crunch. |

Quick question - are you a graduate?
Also there is a youth hostel in Shamian in Guangzhou which is very clean and reasonable - it is also a very nice part of town to hang around while you are llooking for work. I have sent a PM, asking you a couple more Q's. |

I have a B.A. in English with a substantial number of credits toward a full credential. I am 41 but look much younger. |
