I was asked by a neighbour where he should go to learn English. I suddenly realised that I could not think of one single place that I could really suggest.

The language schools are rubbish and it is hit and miss whether my neighbour would get ESL Teacher 1973 or a ''good'' teacher. Those weekend uni course places are just grammar translation and my neighbour has not got the money for private lessons.

Where would you suggest and why?

The weekend uni things aren't necessarily doing just grammar translation-- I'm teaching a business English class at Bilgi Eğitim and I don't teach that way.

Also, if your friend goes to EF Suadiye or Etiler, I know most of the teachers there and they are really good for the most part, very pro. It isnt all dire.

It really depends on the student though. Ages / needs / reasons. Grammer translation can be very usefull for a lot of students. Especially if they're expected to translate alot in their day to day lives.
Just tell them to stay away from teachers wearing eyeliner.

Am also in the prep program, but doing business too just to remember what it is like to teach small, eager classes.
