I'm in a bad situation. I had a one-year visa (married to Turkish citizen) which stated I had to get a resident permit within one month. I neglected to do this for a number of reasons and then returned to my home country to take care of a banking matter. When I called about obtaining another visa I was told I had broken the law and that they would have to see my documents. I am awaiting their decision. If they say no, do I have any recourse to change the decision ? My husband is there. Surely they wouldn't keep me from being with him, would they ? he can't visit me as he is working and doesn't qualify for a visa yet so this is going to be a nightmare. What can we do ?

Get a lawyer (solicitor) as soon as possible. Do not do it on your own. The money spent will be worth it in the long run.

If they say no, don't go with the same passport. I know someone who did it thinking it can be ok because it's turkey, and ended up 2 days in Turkish jail while landing in the airport.
None of the policemen spoke english and it he tried communicating with them with his bozuk turkce, and each one of the policemen said something else. It was a horrible experience.

I was told that if you'r e english, you can own 2 passports and if you enter with the passport that didnt overstay, they woulndt notice. but it's a guess.

Also, make sure you have someone in turkey go to the yabanci police and check in the books for the correct amount of time you're not supposed to come. otherwise consouls can say something that may end up to be wrong.

but, I hope they say yes, for you.

What business do you have marrying a Turk anyway? The reason they won't let you into the country is because they don't want you. It's also Ramazan. Stick to your own and you won't have problems like this. The Turkish Govt. is very particular about their laws and don't take well to foreign women marrying Turkish men. Ofcourse they're not going to tell you this but when things aren't happening the way you expected you'll know why. Oh and wait, what happens when you have kids? What's his or your family gonna think if they decide they want to identify with the opposite culture or vice versa. May not be the nicest thing to say but you brought it up. We are all entitled to post our own opinions at that point and that is mıne. Don't marry a Turk or you'll have alot of problems.

( from another post - same day...)

Fınd yourself an identity. Your mocking their culture. I have read alot of trash here that ı'm sure most Turks wouldn't appreciate.

Trash such as ... "stick to your own..." I'm entitled to my opinion too, and as someone married to a Turk for six years, I think what you've had to say on this matter is borderline racist.

That's a really nasty problem. How much longer than a month did you wait to get the residence permit?

Have you found the Turkish consulates at home to be any help?

I'm with ghost-- get a lawyer. Your husband may have to do a lot of work from this end. But I think you're right-- there has to be a way. I mean, I can't imagine keeping a married couple apart over something so stupid...

Good luck! Keep us posted!

International huıman rights laws prevents them from keeping you apart on such matters, but the adminstrative process can take a long time. I'm sure you won't need it, but there are charities dedicated to ensuring families such as yours can stay together.
Good luck.
