|
|
Since I haven't used netscape in ages, I was just wondering. Is anybody using Netscape, especially version 7.1, these days? They claim they have a popup control feature which can be turned on or off as needed. That in itself makes it appealing to me. Some other things such as tabbed browsing, simultaneous downloading, and easy saving of complete web pages with all the pics looks good too.
On a sour note, saw one article giving the death toll to Netscape. |

I use Netscape and it's great. The two killer features are tabbed browsing - you use the middle button to open a new tab - and the fact that you can adjust the font size.
There are various pop-up killers. Netscape 7.01 doesn't appear to have one. You can in fact get everything you mention, apart from the change in font size, using add-ins for IE. However Netscape or Firebird (the latest Mozilla release) wins hands down in my opinion.
If you want a discussion on the "demise" of Netscape try this link. http://discuss.fogcreek.com/joelonsoftware/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=57594
The forum is probably the best on the web for general software development issues, so if you have any programmer friends, I recommend it. |

Thanks, Stephen. I downloaded it and am tying it now. Maybe it's just a good night but I cannot believe the difference in speed. I'm in China with an ADSL connection and I had just assumed it was slow for other reasons. BTW, it is 7.1, and it does have a popup stopper function built in. |
