Anybody have any ideas or places I can find games for 18-20 olds, mid sized classes around 30-40 students. Most of the games I've come across have been more geared towards kids
Thanks |

this one is so simple i cant believe it works.
break the class into 3-4 groups. divide the blackboard into the same number of groups. tell one group they have to fill the board with as many adjectives describing food as they can, another group to do the same but words describing people, and something similar for the third group. only one student at the board per group at a time writing, the rest have to shout the words to their compatriot up front. after a minute or so, more students will run up to the board and start writing,... it breaks down into manageable kaos really. after a few minutes check their spelling/accuracy and count up the words..... declare a winner. every time i use this the kids go nuts..... |

See my weblog:
http://eslmaniac.web-log.nl/
All of the things I've posted there are activities I have done myself with students in college and university.
I've got a lot of Word and Excel documents as well that I've used, but I can't seem to find a space online to share them with everyone.
Send me an e-mail (link on my weblog) if you're interested.
regards,
Dajiang |

Level: College.
Materials: 8 assorted soft drinks.
Preparation: Take the 8 assorted soft drinks and remove the brand labels.
Warm up/Hook: Brainstorm any advertisements your students e.g. McD's, KFC etc. From there ask if they know the slogans for the advertisements, which most will and be glad to sing, "ba dap ba ba ba, I'm loving it." If they don't sing it for them. After this they will have a good idea of what your are talking about, and ask them about some slogans they will never forget, whether or not if it's in English or Chinese it does not matter, the point is to get them thinking about the effects of good slogans.
The Game: Write on the blackboard this scenario. "8 new soft drinks have been released, but the problem is none of the products have been given a unique name, a taste test, or a creative slogan, and it is up to you as the students to do this." Then pass out the 8 drinks to 8 different groups and tell them to create the name, taste test, and slogan for their given drink.
Process: Give them at least 30 minutes to discuss everything as a group, and encourage them to be creative, and try the drink they have. Stress the fact that everyone in the group must have something to say about the product, and encourage jingles or short songs.
Presentation: Have each group present their product with their creative name, taste test, and slogan. Give scores for all of them, and choose the top four to compete in a second round where they must explain why their product is better than the other three. Encourage them to tell lies about the other products or their own, which makes it fun. Then choose the winner according to your scores and reveal the winner, which should bring uproar to the class.
Good luck, and if this is not in-depth enough for you get on messenger and I can explain it a little better. |
