Hold down the ALT key and type 64 on the numeric keypad on your righthand side, it alwys works, unless your NumLock button is turned off.

Huh... typing ALT and then 64 doesn't work on mine...
I have to press ALT GR and then 2 to get the @.

My key board is in English, but the problem is my dear husband, who is constantly resetting the defualt configuration to Spanish keyboard because he doesn't like to Alt Control apostrophy in the accents--but my augument is I know how to touch type and he doesn't so since I'm not even looking at the keys, things need to be where they are meant to be Laughing

I have a key next to my greatly reduced space bar that turns my keystrokes into Korean script. May be you can see it here: 안영. The first time I ran into it was at Incheon Airport when I was desperately looking to see if I had any job offer emails it totally threw me, but with sign language to a fellow cybernaut found out how to convert back to Roman script.

But sometimes still the backslash key appears on screen as a W with a line through it (Won)

As to the relevance of this to the OP, when you work in a state university you spend over 50% of your working day avoiding the Head of Department so you can browse the internet looking for higher-paying jobs in other countries that have different keyboard configurations to what you are used. Razz

My new classes are going great. I really like my classes this semester and I think it will be the best one yet - well, if a certain co-worker doesn't drive me crazy...

Most of the students are pretty poor, so instead of asking them to buy a 300 peso textbook we put together a packet of various photocopiable material for the class. The packet for my Intermediate level was roughly 40 pesos. Well, some of the students in my Intermediate class were sold the wrong photocopy packet! About ten of them had the packet for Elementary - which of course is completely useless for the class.

Being the somewhat nice guy that I am, I offered to buy back the packets so that they could afford to go get the correct packet. (Actually, I knew that if I didn't, some of the students wouldn't be able to cough up the money to get the correct packet.) I ended up forking out about 400 pesos for the packets.

I then took the superfluous packets to my actual Elementary class - but very unfortunately, most already had picked up the correct packet, so I sold only three! Great. Now I'm the owner of seven useless packets and I'm broke to boot.

Today one student brought in her bad packet. More greatness. As I paid her my last 40 pesos until payday, I made a big joke out of showing everyone my empty wallet.

"Oh no!" I said in mock horror. "I have no more money. Now I have to wait until my next payday so I can buy more beer!"

This student then shyly told me that the packet was only 36 pesos and she then gave me back four pesos in change! I told the class that now I could afford half a beer! I then went on with my lesson.

At the end of the hour, several students then came up to me, and each gave me four pesos in change. They then told me that now I could buy more beer! (Or maybe they just think I can teach better after a few...)

I've had the same experience with geting stuck with unpaid copies of texts. Lat year I think I ened up with about seven. We don't even have original books for sale, so all that's available are copies. I determine more or less what I'll be using in a semester and have it copied and binded all at once-off campus, where they do a better job as well as charging less. That's to avoid the hassles of all the straglers who may or may not get around to making copies till half way through the semester, as well as reducing wear and tear on our only original texts. So in order for my students to have the text in the first week of classes I shell out in advance for the copies, which this semester ended up being around 2,800 pesos. My girlfriend wanted to kill me when she found out that I'd put out that much cash and trusted the students to pay me. We'll see how it goes...
