Hi,
My boyfriend and I have just completed our TESOL course here in Thailand and are looking for jobs. We have decided that we would like to head down to the southern part of the peninsula but we would like to avoid very touristy areas and cities. I guess we are looking for smaller towns either on the coast or in the hills. Right now we are looking at the provinces of Suratthani, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Trang, and Ranong. We would appreciate any tips on schools to contact or job openings as well as opinions on these areas.

Thanks,
Billie

I am aware of the situation in the deep south of Thailand and that is why I specifically mentioned the provinces that I did. Songkhla and Hat Yai are actually two areas specifically named when warnings have been released advising people to defer travel to those areas. Schools are mentioned specifically in these warnings.
Does anyone know of any smaller towns and schools in the provinces I had mentioned previously? Of course we would be looking for a town big enough to have two job openings.

There is no good reason why you shouldn't consider working in Had Yai or Songkla. While you might read about violence in the Songkla Province it only affects a few of the districts where there is a Muslim majority. Neither of the cities of Had Yai or Songkla are affected by the violence.

That said, it is true there were some bombings in Had Yai in April but these were isolated incidents. Compare this with Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat where bombings and shootings happen almost daily. The situation there appears to be getting worse sadly.
