Well it turns out that someone was a little jealous that JT got a whole poem to himself. So this evening I returned to my poetry corner and churned out this little gem:

There is a man in Mexico,
I�m sure you�ve seen him here.
Sometimes his posts are useful,
Some come from too much beer.

He can be quite a character,
He tries to get us thinking.
But he seems far more successful,
When he tries to get us drinking.

Now the only thing most posters need
Is a touch of good advice,
He dispenses much for them to use,
And we see he can be nice!

Other times he gets quite raunchy,
And we all recoil in shock.
Can this be our wise guru?
Our solid steady rock?

Then he joins the troublemakers,
Encouraging their wit.
You can ask our friend JT,
Just what he thinks of it.

I�m sure you know of whom I speak,
I shouldn�t have to say.
It is of course �The� Guy Courchesne,
Don�t want him any other way.

Getting back to the subject . . .
I know Guy runs a course.
CELTA is probably the best known course. If you don't want to do that, find one that has at least 120 hours and at least 6 hours of teaching.

How is the CELTA received down there in Peru? I find in some places like Argentina it's well known, but in others people have no idea about it. I guess it depends on where you find the British Council?

Here in Quito, the British COuncil went bust when we dolarized. And at most institutes, a cert is a cert is a cert. It's beginning to wind me up, the number of people who list "TEFL certificate" on their resumes, without anything about provider, course...just "TEFL Cert" and the dates. As if it meant something specific...(Sorry. Pet Rant)

I know one institute, and a VERY high profile, high quality one, which recently, in order to "standardize" qualifications, or some such thing, had all its teachers do the i to i cert. (This would be funny if it weren't true. The funny thing is, these are professional teachers, often MA level educated...)

Education about what a teaching qualification means here is sorely lacking...
