I'm wondering cause you set Turkey under europe...

I think 5 % of turkey lies in Europa and the big other part is in asia. So why is it set in europe here?

I hope they'll never come to the EU.

Welcome to the forum.

They had to put Turkey in Europe or else there would be too many complaints from Turks.

Cue loads of outraged posters who disagree with you and tell you how fabulous Turkey is and how European it is and how great their jobs are.

Of course you too will be accused of being 31 or Faustion or ekmekparasi in order to drive you off the forum but of course they all believe in democracy and free speech. How ironic that they are in Turkey.

You do not need to to east. Look at parts of Istanbul. Of course Cihangir, Beyoglu and Suadiye are great for the ex pats but Gaziosmanpasa or Esenyurt-European, I don`t think so.

Very commendable of Taiwan.

I imagine that to work in a language school there the teachers and DOSes have to have at least a degree and a teaching certificate.

Nope. You just need a degree, and you can get a working permit without a teaching certificate.

Interesting topic.

For some time earlier this year I thought Turkey had no chances of joining the EU and wondered if it was good for Turkey... or the EU. I looked around at those lazing by the seaside, spitting seed shells everywhere and said "off ya". Discussing it with the head of my department, a Turkish lady, I mostly kept my opinions to myself and was surprised when she said "We will never get into the EU. Turks are too lazy."

I have met many Turkish people. Some I have come to know very well. They all have some things in common- frustration and wanting better lives. They don't want to stream across the border into EU countries. They want to stay. But they want things to be better.

Perhps joining the EU can help that. Goals and deadlines will be set, changes will be made. It is something to work towards.

Don't think of today's Turkey joining the EU. Joining is years in the future. Think of the next generation joining the EU- those like whynotme, those who like grunge music, those men with earrings...those who want change.

Turkey is changing. And there are many kinds of Turk.

Perhaps if everyone supported Turks, helped them, cheered them on, Turks could improve and make the country what they want it to be.

The question of where Turkey is is rather pointless, that has never been made as an arugment against Turkey. It's in N.A.T.O, it's in U.A.F.A, and most European N.G.O.s accept Turkish gruops . ie Turkey lions is tied to Eruo Lions.

The point is not where Europe is but what Europe is and wants to become. The E.U started as the E.C (or Roma club)and said that it was not a regional grouping but rather an Economic one.

Your point about joing the E.U is right thou. Turkey like the U.k sees the E.U as an economic club first and formost. It has no interest in an E.U superstate. Turkey feels that its economic growth will best develop within the E.U. Who knows if thier right or not. Most Euro leaders who support Turkey do so for the economic benefit they feel they will get out of it.

Don't forget over the last 3 years Turkey has had a growth rate of over 8% pa yet Euro economies are growing at less than 0.3 percent on average.

So drop all the political and social crap it's all about the money. It always was and always will be. As much as some Turks want Europe, some Europeans want Turkey.

I personally feel Turkey could do well with out it.

Social security benefits in Germany have been cut in recent years in part because of Turks working for a year in Germany and then going on the social for another four years. At least this is what my next door neighbour told me and he has a cousin who is on the social in Germany.
