Hello, I am not planning to teach in Italy but I am hoping for some help, I am moving to Italy in a few days to work as a nanny....i do not have a visa to live or work there, but I am working for an American in the Navy that is stationed there, she seems to think it won't be a problem but I am nervous, has anyone ever lived in Italy without the proper documents??
(I am unable to get a visa because Italians have to hire europeans for nannys, they do not grant work visas for non-european nannys, but since i am working for an american, she has to apply for a work permit to hire an employee, then send it to Canada for me to apply to the embassy here for some type of visa, but I have to fly over with her so I will be there.)
Anyone have any luck at obtaining a visa in another european country for Italy??? Sorry this post is a bit all over the place I am writing it in a hurry!! |

You can't get a visa in some different country for Italy.
It should be the responsibility of your employer to be sure that you are legal. He/she may be able to do this through the military, or by paying you directly into a North American account in dollars. I had an American friend who worked legally in Italy for a couple of years for an American company that paid directly into her U.S. account - you should be sure that your employer is going to be able to handle the paperwork for you!! |

There are different visa standards for people working as au pairs. Check with the Italian Embassy in your country. |
