Well let me ask you, what is the demand for Urdu teachers in your home country? or Hausa? or Beber? How about Catua I bet it is about the same as the demand for Spanish teachers in Taiwan. |

Don't need to be so though. Spanish, is about as spread as english, if not see the USA fastest growing language, in NYC, California, in Florida I guess there are few English speakers left.
I just asked a question. If you can provide and answer you are welcome. If you want to make a smart remark, not so smart, you can keep it.
Thanks |

Hay pocas posiciones para los profesores espaoles respecto a Taiwn. Si usted tiene un MBA usted puede conseguir una posicin en una universidad respecto a Taiwn.
Lea por favor esto.

Do you make any sense? we were not talking about the need for Spanish teachers in the U.S. In the U.S. you can find a job teaching Spanish but the demand for Spanish teachers in Taiwan is very low? Why would that be?
Here are some reason?
The proximity of Taiwan to a Spanish speaking country.
Few native Spanish speakers live in Taiwan.
Spanish is not the language of global commerce.
Taiwan's main trading partners are Japan, China, U.S., Hong Kong, South Korea (i.e. not Spanish speaking countries) |

With the exception of the US they are also not English speaking.
I don't know about the opportunities for Spanish speakers (fairly slim I would think, although my school in Japan used to have German and French teachers so you never know), but I think on a global scale Spanish is fairly high up the list. And like you say Spanish is fairly well spread.
I would take your question over to www.forumosa.com and start again. |

Thanks Mark,
I appreciate your positive answers. Some others need to beat quastions up, not realizing that everyone has different needs .

In essence JZer is probably right. The opportunities may be limited unless, as Aristotle says, you have a higher qualification to offer. I don't think JZer's comparison with Beber (surely you mean Berber) and Hausa is valid. Those languages hardly fall into the same league as Spanish.
Anyway, try the forums at www.forumosa.com. You may also draw a blank there, but if anybody knows the chances are they hang out on that forum and not this one. |

Markholmes, thanks for correcting my spelling. I am not trying to beat up on anyone. I am just saying that unless you have high qualifications and can teach Spanish at a university you will have a hard time finding work. Furthermore, I believe that most universities would only have a very few Spanish teachers.
I love when someone does not give them the rosy answer they want to hear that they are beating up on them. I just think it is foolish for people to believe that mass amounts of people everywhere would want to learn their language. I don't think from a Taiwanese perspective that learning Berber is that far off. From a global perspective Spanish is 1000 time more useful that Berber but in Taiwan, Spanish is probably no more useful than Berber. They are not near any Spanish speaking countries and they don't trade much with Spanish speaking countries. |

Thanks Mark,
I appreciate when someone answers what is requested as help in the question. This is not a match between relative importance of language in different areas. Assuming all of us have lived elsewhere out of our home town. I'll check the site you mentioned, I realize this is a ESL site, however I was sharing the experience of the people, not of an specific language.
Just to add some color to proportions is teh story of two marketing guys going to an island to sell shows, and they made two different replies to their home offices:
-the first one said, no opportunity here, no one uses shoes in this island
-the second one said, great opportunity! no one has shoes here!! |
