Anyone who currentlyresides there or has visited and would like to share their thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Cindy,
Ya just posted a few days ago- gotta give people a chance to respond before you write everyone off.
Anyway, Matusumoto is a FANTASTIC place. If you like the outdoors (skiing, hiking, camping, etc...) then Nagano-ken is the perfect place and I think Matsumoto is the best city (although I live in Suwa/Chino which is about 40 minutes south of Matsumoto).
Matsumoto is one of the those Japanese cities that's big enough to feel like a city yet not overwhleming like Tokyo or Osaka (lived in Tokyo nearly five years before relocating to Nagano).
There's also a fairly big and active expat crowd up there (I'm up there a fair bit hanging out with friends) as well as loads of Japanese and other cultural things to do. In addition you can hop on the train or bus and be in Tokyo in about 3 hours if you're crazing a little big city excitement (it won't be cheap though).
I've never worked for Peppy Kids Club, but I believe a few in the foreign community up there do.
Here's the Matsumoto City English website

and another about outdoor things to do in Japan

As for adopting you, I don't know if I want the responsibility, but I have a very good friend in Matsumoto who might be willing to share her wealth of knowledge if I had contact details I could pass along to her. However, as with everything, it does take a while for people to carve out there own niche of friends and what not here so what you make of your experience here is really gonna depend on the energy you put into it.
I guess what I'm saying is it would be great for someone to "adopt you" but don't expect it and don't count on it (although you'll find most peole- foerign and Japanese- you meet here will try to help you as much as they can).
Hope that's helpful and good-luck!
Cheers,
ryuro |

Thanks very much for your reply I wasn't attempting to be dismissive or snotty I just assumed that perhaps no one who frequented here had every been to M so had no opinions or stories to tell!
Thanks for the kind words and advice on what a sweet spot it is-- I neeed some positive reinforcement! IT sca-rey moving from little Kamloops BC Canada to big old Japan
And are you sure you dont want to adopt me? I'm pretty much (*Crosses her fingers*) potty trained what more do ya need?
Thanks again Cindy |

Hey CinD
I don't know a thing about Matsumoto, but I'm headed in that area at the end of august to a city just south of it about 20 min away. I can't adopt you but if you need a fellow, Canadian Rockies, experiencing Japan for the first time, bud-winkle, let me know. (I don't have any real affiliation with the Rockies, I just spent the winter in Banff) Anyway good luck
