Interesting. I was told that a very few in DF focus only on conversation if that's what the class is titled. A student I had here from Mexico told me that his sister went to many different schools for conversation and they all gave her books.
This did nothing for her conversation in a real life, unplanned, natural setting so she went to one called Quick English I believe. Her conversation class had no books nor tapes, they focused only on conversation if that's what you signed up for.
Her speaking skills improved tremendously with that method. I'm jusy trying to get a feel for a school that may have the same ideology as I have. Thanks again Guy for all of the information.

Well, you get all kinds of classes really. Looking at language schools only, most will assign a book or program of some type. Some stick strictly to the book, others dip in and out of it. Every language school or chain will want the teacher to be able to apply the material to outside-the-book topics...it's just a matter of having time and opportunity to do so. Berlitz is the strictest as far as I know for not deviating.
The person who went to Quick Learning would be the first I have ever heard praising their system. They had an ad campaign for awhile (could still be going on) promising that one will be 'thinking in English in 6 months, guaranteed'. A little lofty I think.
I think you'll have lots of options to choose from when you come down. Most schoos will like to see that you are interested in being able to work outside the text. I think you have the right attitude |

Guy,
I don't know about adoption. You and jfrugers could look here
http://www.sre.gob.mx/
From reading there it seems like it is cheaper to naturalize because of marriage, than because of having children. But you have to have been married for two years before you can apply that way. That works for me 2 years and 2 months!
Also the stupid civil registery made a mistake and on one of my daughter's birth certificates, it actually says I'm Mexican, the other it says I'm estadounidense. Knowing Mexico, looks like I've got some headaches ahead of me due to that one! |
