Take a look at the list on the right of the threads and check out how many people are viewing these postings. Then compare it with the number of replies. WOW! There are a lot of mystery beings roaming this sight without announcing themselves. C'mon people, don't be shy...why y ou here? Dreaming about going and not quite brave enough, or too poor yet? Tell us who you are, let's get this fiesta started. |
I lived in South America for nearly a year and spent nearly another year in Spain getting a Masters degree.. so feel a strange connection to checking out this board from time to time.
Every once in a great while I remotely consider the possibility of returning to the Latin American world (Colombia or Panama seem to be the locations of interest at this time).. absolutely loved teaching in Brazil - but that damn poverty thing of never having any money or income really got to me!
I also have to admit that for whatever interest I have in returning to the Spanish/Portuguese-speaking world.. I'm also in love with ASIA and North America for that matter. |

Hello lurkers and posters,
I confess, I am a newbie and occassional poster but mostly a lurker for now. Being new to the field, being uncertified, and lack of experience, not being in Latin America, and having no avatar all contribute to my lack of posting. It is poverty rather than fear that is holding me back at the moment, but look for frequent posts from me when I take the plunge into the world of TEFL next July!
lurking and loving it,
Z |

Which part of Latin America are you thinking of going to? I think between us we have most places covered.

As of yet, I have no idea. The only thing I know for certain at this point is that I am doing a TEFL training course next late-July/early August, and hopefully I will get a better idea of where I am going as the time gets closer. It might not even be in Latin America--it sounds like alot of people start in Asia and then a Latin American country later, and I may also follow that route. Right now I am lurking on many of the forums, and they all have slightly different feels. The general latin america forum is one of my favorites. |

Hi Guys, i'm a part time lurker, occasional poster and somewhat of a newbie. I'm fresh out of 'local anecdotes' as i dont have any experience or quals yet, thus i dont have much i can contribute. However i have sold my business, paid for my tix to Santiago this xmas and as far as i'm concerned i'm already there mentally, just waiting for my body to catch up. So once i knock a course over in Feb i'll be happy to fill these pages with rantings on life in Latin America! |

Hi. Lurker here. I look for info about Colombia from time to time, as Id like to go to work there next year.
Doesnt seem to be much about though! |

A lot of people (including latin americans) are extrememly scared of Colombia. I was there (just travelling) for 3 weeks a month ago. Its really very pretty, oddly modern (they actually have gas delivered to their houses through pipes!) and the people are quite friendly. I was also on a bus that got held up by bandits, who went so far as to check thoroughly inside my underwear to see if I had any cash hidden there. On the other hand, they saw a photocopy of my (US) passport and didnt kidnap me. Bogota is a cool city, but rainy and cold year round. Cali is fun but rather ghetto. I would go with Bucaramanga if I were you

And in some places you can drink the tap water, AND it tastes lovely! |
