just read that an institue in chile has developed a way of teaching basic english to asylum seekers from the american wars of late and they are going to use them to teach chileans basic english. It takes just 8 days and they are ready to teach.

May put some of us out of a job.

I am a bit confused.

Who is being taught what? Are refugees being taught English? Are they being taught how to teach English? What, exactly, is it that only takes 8 days?

Refugees from war zones as they say they are the most eager type of refugee due to them not being able to go home they will be more apt to learn quickly. They are being taught basic English grammar (maybe they could teach me from some of my posts) they will then be used to teach native Chileans.

The Chilean governerment wants to make English an official second language, bearing in mind that next to noone speaks any English outside of the main cities this is gonna be kinda difficult.

In the last study conducted by some English compnay even most of the Chileans who do speak English are only at the basic to intermediate level with most having very bad conversational English.

So they have come up with this plan, teach refugeees who in return for a resident visa teach basic English. Saves money I guess.

An 8 day course is ideal for the Government.

Seems a strange policy to introduce this side of a general election. I'm sure this will be thrown out immediately if Lavin or Pinera get in.
