Funny that you should say that. If there's another tropical country that's chock full o' blondes then I'd like to know about it Smile

North Queensland really is the pits culturally, but damn there are some hotties about.

Pah, they're all fake blondes who play for Hawthorn in the South, and it's only the North that's tropical. The ones up there may be hotties but I like my meat with the brain intact. I'm with LC there are better fish in the ocean.

My experiences in southern Mexico (Oaxaca) are practically IDENTICAL to Ben Round de Bloc, with one minor exception - I used to hear "novio/a" used as just a casual, or a new, boy/girlfriend. Perhaps it was wishful thinking, sort of like calling a newish boyfriend your "old man."

There is also the rude term for a homosexual partner, "pollo/a" which I encountered in Puerto Vallarta (which many people consider the "San Francisco of Mexico"). I mostly heard gays using it, but the context made it clear that it was not a term they would appriciate a non-gay using (sort of like black Americans calling one another "n*gger").

Wow! Shocked Even with very shaky statistics that means you're writing off about 10 million of our countrymen as being thick football players. On behalf of many of my male friends, who are not only handsome, have brilliant physiques, are amazingly well-hung (ok, I'm exaggerating about that bit.. Wink ) and really witty and intelligent, I would like to register my formal protest.

Protest duly registered...and? Razz Laughing

It wouldn't be 10 million blokes that we're writing off because I was only referring to those of an eligible age and status...yeah ok so I was generalising a wee bit but much as I love my Aussie guy buddies I wouldn't want to date any of them.

Anyway if such men as you have just described really do exist you have obviously been very selfishly keeping them all to yourself, cow! Wink Laughing

Do they still use the delightful pololo/a term in Chile?????

Yep, and the verb 'pololear'. 'Estas pololeando?' means 'Are you seeing anyone at the mo?' for example.

'Novio/a' means a serious relationship that's going to end in marriage, basically 'prometido/a'.

I haven't yet heard an Argentine slang form for boyf/girlf. The standard 'novio/a' and 'prometido/a' are used.

It's quite common to call your girlf 'mi mujer' here but i think that's the same everywhere.

It's also pretty common with people of all ages to use 'senora' as in the phrase 'Saludos a tu senora'. Used between friends only though and not acquaintances or unknowns.

I saw a baby stroller being sold at the supermarket recently. It's name in English was "The Free Life". The only way I can picture that is if I get into it, not fill it Smile

Or if you look at it another way you make the life for free...

However then you have to pay for it until it's at least eighteen...
