a lot of ppl here have a lot of exp dealing with schools in chile, mainly santiago.
I myself live in england as well trvael around a bit for work. I have decided to quit england and return to chile and have thought of opening my own school in chile. I run english courses in the uk for private middle eastern ppl as well as having taught english to latin americans for quite some time.
I could do with some input advice etc from anyone in chile or who has taught in chile or abraod even.
all advice tips etc would be appreciated. I will be in Chile nov till march getting things finalised. Barring anything weird happening we would open sometime in 2006.
the plan ios to hire or buy a buiding as well as accomodation for the teachers at affordable rates . the teachers would be all foreign nationals and the work visa would be done by us.
so if anyone would like to voice any advice tips etc please please do.
thanks |

hi joanne
Thanks for the reply and I will try to email you asap. All help is appreciated.
I have received some replies via my email address from teachers etc. I was surprised at no replies too at first.
All the finances etc for the school are in place and just the paper work and final touches required. My sister is a teacher also as well as some friends from the U.K. and I want to make a teacher friendly as well as student friendly place.
I am waiting till I get to Chile to sort out all the paperwork for work permits etc for teachers as well as the accomodation. We plan to open first in Santiago then maybe Concepcion. So all the help we can get the better.
I am getting ready to go to Chile in a few days so email you soon.
Regards Jorge |

Thanks to all the ppl who emailed me and replied via the forum.
I have been busy sorting things as well as meeting "dave ppl" this last month.
As for the school it has all gone very well and I plan to return to the U.K March 2006 for 2 months or so and then move back to Chile to open the school. Basically as soon as possible as the more time I spend abroad the more I like it.
So june -july 2006 is a rough date and will be hiring just before then. We plan to offer the contrcat so teachers do not have to do the border hop every 3 months as many told me this was a pain in the ass. We may have a limited amount of accomodatioon as my sister who will be running the school with me plans to buy a house as well which she will rent out, prefernece may go to women teachers on that as its her house.
We dont mind teachers doing privates on the side as long as it does not interfer with the hours they agree to do for us, rate wise it will be in line with most schools here already.(cant have it all your way).
Native speaskers will be given pref but chilean teachers who can do the work will not be rejected. I have been a teacher myself in the middle east as well as the uk and in chile so the school set up reflects this but i have also run my own business for a while in the uk so have some business sense at least.
Anyone who i have not responded to pls forgive as i have been busy and i did lose my email list for a week or so.
In santiago most weekends unless i go south and also some weekdays to go shopping and the pictures so if you wanna meet up or i have not replied send me email and ill meet you.
no satanists or odd folk pls. |

Hi tiolee,
I am one of those people who's written to you recently (on December 3)but hasn't received a reply. I am not in Chile right now and would prefer to have a job lined up before leaving for Santiago. Are you only planning to hire people already in Chile, or would you consider giving a contract to someone who is elsewhere at the moment?
Good luck with everything,
MO
P.S. What's the best way to send you my resume? |
