I'm not surprised, the only food available in Bolivia is chicken and chips and that's never going to provide the nutrients to cure illnesses...

sorry.

It said Bogota was an invalid city too.. What you have to do (or what I did for Bogota) was just type in "Cochabamba" and then wait for the drop down menu to give you an option which may or may not say "Cochabamba, Cochabamba, Bolivia"...

Took me about 6 tries, but I got there...

I actually eat a lot healthier here than I ever did in Britain.

I'm tempted to say its a bad idea just to be contrary to all you pollyannas. Actually, I'm a bit worried that I'll later regret identifying my location. Doomed, I tell you! We're all doomed!

Guy, that was pretty impressive! I thought I was doing well creatively with my Seinfeld-like observations on Limea life, but Im afraid youve got me beat. The Map program is pretty messed up, it told me twice that Lima Peru was an invalid city. WHen I finally got it to work, it insisted on putting "Lima, Callao".
Which is sort of like insisting on "New York, Newark". Callao is quite a craphole....Ive got relatives there who have a very nice house....but craphole all the same. And it also has the brewery producing the worst beer in all of Peru

Could be the title of a Northwestern folk song.

I've never even BEEN to Eugene.
it's a college town with some sort of music scene
I've got a couple of teaching job possibilities lined up

I tried Dalian, where I am now, and I tried Shenyang
but I've never been to Beijing
But I tried it and the top of the map said "Invalid City."

met my wife, And you all there should be aware of this
Maybe I should have put myself in Tijuana??
Nope. I thought it would work that time.

So I guess I'll leave myself in Eugene.

Gregor, you must find something karmic in all this? Where do you want to be? Maybe that'll work.

I made a map for the alumni of my masters program. A friend of mine in China says the map doesnt appear for her, probably because Google is blocked in China. Anyone else have this problem?

HA!
No, google isn't blocked in China (though it's a fair assumption, I guess). I'm in China. Though I have had my own, well-chronicled, problems with the map.

Yeah, Guy, karma. Maybe I need to just chill. This is all symptomatic of my "short-timing." I now know I'll be leaving soon, so I am taking a broader look at the world once again.
Its an interesting phenomenon. When I know where I'll be for a while (like, at the beginning of a contract, or half-way through a two-year contract or something), the world is a BIG OL' PLACE, and it's WAY OUT THERE. As PJ O'Roarke puts it, thinking about the world is sort of like being in some sort of traffic accident, when you're driving, say, a huge 1959 Cadillac - you are aware of something going on, but it's so far away and so unlikely to effect you or your life at the moment that you just carry on driving.
But now that I know I'll be leaving China, I'm all about the rest of the world, especially the parts that I miss so much.
That accounts for my sudden appearance in the Latin American forums.
