|
|
We are thinking of signing up for cable. Can anyone confirm which channels are going to be carrying the football (soccer) World Cup next year? Is Fuji TV a safe bet?
Also, I've been checking through a few old threads and I just want to check- am I right in assuming that the programmes shown here on Discovery Channel, History Channel, Fox, etc are in English with subtitles...or are they dubbed?
Thanks in advance for the info (if you have any). |

I have skyp. Yhe fox and discovery channels have subtitltes and dubbed. But you can switch to english mode. As for the world cup, I am not sure about cable , but skyp will surely have full coverage. |

What about hockey? Any satellite plans cover any NHL games? I am thinking about biting the bullet and getting a dish. |

Gordon. I have SkyPerfectTV and haven't seen any NHL broadcasts yet. I also haven't found the link to watch the promised webcasts through Comcast. My only source is to watch the highlights at NHL.com, although squeezing a two-hour game into a 30-second highlight reel just doesn't do it for me. I'm really aching to catch a whole game. |

Aching isn't a strong enough word. Hockey is part of my dna. I do listen to games when I can, that is a small consolation.
Does skyperfect have cnn or bbc? |

I was in Japan for the 2002 World Cup. As far as I remember, NHK and Fuji showed selected (ie big name) matches. The NHK broadcasts were bilingual, using the BBC's commentary. |

Yes, they have both. We also get ESPN and I can get a very little bit of hockey news from "SportCenter", although they mostly cover the NFL, NBA, and college football and basketball. Hockey might get a minute or two in their one-hour program. |

Some games were on free-to-air channels last WC, all other games were on Sky Perfect on the special pay-per-view channels. As I recall you were able to buy a special package where you could watch all the matches for a set fee. |

All of the World Cup games will be shown via the internet and totally free of charge through pplive.
This website also shows English Premiership and Champions League games all live and totally free of charge.
I am able to watch all of the games (far more than even skyperfect) and it doesn't cost anything.
The only drawback is the commentary is in Chinese but the quality is excellent.
This site has many other sports as well as 24hr movie channels, all free of charge.

I downloaded it, but cannot watch anything. I keep getting an error message saying: "Please check your network connection" when I click on a channel. It does look promising with just this minor glitch. |

Gordon,
I have never experienced any problems with pplive.
What connection do you have ?
I use a standard Yahoo BB connection.
You can also change the language to English.
Good luck and I hope you get it working as it really is a fantastic site..... |

I have yahoo and found the english function. I tried about 15 channels before 1 opened up (windows media 10) but then it never really finished buffering. This continued 3-4 times after about 30 minutes. I'll try again later. |
