Forgive me for being ignorant, but what subjects are taught at international schools that an ESL teacher would be allowed to teach?

Do the schools have classes dedicated to ESL or is it structured some other way?

What're your quals? And bear in mind there are different 'levels' of international school here. But without a 'proper' teaching qualification (PGCE, BEd etc.) and experience, you'll struggle to get into the 'good' ones.

At International Schools, all subjects - math, science, history, etc - are taught in English.

For that reason, most International Schools are usually not looking for ESL teachers per se.

Instead, they want qualified BEd teachers, as kenkannif mentioned,

who can teach a variety of subjects.

You might get lucky and land an ESL position at a school with the word 'International'

in its name, but be aware that many of these are not accredited;

they're just using 'international' in their school name

because its fashionable for their image.

For a list of 'real' International Schools, try this:

http://www.isat.or.th/member_schools.asp

If you have two or more years of teaching experience,

a BEd, a bona-fide teaching credential from your home country

and/or a PGCE and/or an MEd, then by all means go for it !

The salaries & perks at international schools are much better

than at run-of-the-mill Thai TEFL schools & universities;

in fact, generally double or more.

^ Even at the crappier ones (all subjects in English)? Or like the Chinese or Sikh international schools? Or those that follow German/Danish etc. curriculum's? Wink

Just checked, most will be in English, but not all.
