Hi there,
I'm a dual Australian/Maltese citizen (with CELTA and one years experience) and am hoping to find a job teaching general English in Malta. I want to start work at the beginning of summer 2006.
Does anyone out there know of a good place for me to start looking? I've found number of English schools listed on the web, but before getting in contact I was wondering if anyone could give me any recommendations. When do the summer classes begin exactly? Early June?
Given that I am a Maltese citizen, and I have a Maltese passport, am I likely to have difficulty in finding a job there?
Thanks in advance,
Will |

With the passport, you've passed all the legal barriers to working there. You also have experience and a certificate. If you turn up at the right time, and pound the streets, a school will probably snap you right up. If it weren't for some delays getting my passport issues, I'd've done exactly that a few years back.
However, the pay isn't all that great. There was a school right on the tip of Sliema that all but gave me a job as soon as I walked through the door. I can't vouch for the teaching conditions at any of the schools. I guess the time to go job hunting pretty much coincides with the usual summer tourist season in Malta. |

When exactly is the summer tourist season in Malta? Or more specifically, when would be the best time to hit the streets and find a school?! May? Early June? Late June? Bear in mind I'm from Australia, and haven't spent much time in the northern hemisphere! |

The prime holiday season is July to August, corresponding strongly with European school summer holidays. |

What's the job market like for an American in Matla? Impossible? Or can I do visa runs? |
