I'm ashamed to admit that I've been in BA for over 4 months now and haven't seen any real tango (besides the championship thing, which was a dissapointment)...I don't want to pick a random place off the internet, so..any suggestions? Preferably something that's not re expensive. Thanks!

I went to Cafe Tortoni on Av. de Mayo and liked it a lot. I dont know any price comparisons, but I think it might be a little on the expensive side since its kind of touristy. It cost me 25 pesos and a beer, so I don't think thats re expensive even though it might be more than other shows. |

Ok
Tacutosco (or something like that) in San Telmo is a good place to either watch or listen to tango. I'm not sure which, haha. Ask for the name or search it and get the address. I had to dig out my notebook and it is a bit hard to read.
It comes highly recommended, however.
I recently completed two tango courses at my university (one in theory, and the other in dance).
My professor writes tango lyrics and directs/produces a group. He was the one that recommended it and said it was an authentic type place that we could go to and isn't like the other touristy ones, if I recall correctly. I haven't gone because I am lazy.
And no reason to be disapointed. Tango is dead, or atleast the music. It isn't that popular anymore except for the tourist end and for the musicians and dancers. |
