Anyone seen that movie. I am contemplating seeing it. Not being able to understand Japanese though would I still be able to get the gist of the story as the general drama unfolds.

Thats the one with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter?

He is a pilot who works putting out forest fires. he is celebrating his wedding anniversary and then one day he is killed when his plane crashes. He does not realise he is dead but comes back as a ghost and his guardian angel is Audrey hepburn. His wife is grieving and it takes him a while to come to terms with the fact he can not communicate with her except through thoughts.

he helps her overcome her grief but gets jealous when other guys show interest in her.

Finally Audrey helps him to let her go so she can continue with her life. he meets up with his wife to say goodbye again at the end of the movie when she ditches her plane in a lake. I wont tell you the rest but its a love story about a man who dies suddenly and tragically who loves his wife and wont let go with the living world until he is ready and cleared up what he left behind.

Best actor I thought was John Goodman always good in the 'best buddy' scenes.

Wait I'm totally lost. I thought he was talking about the movie about Tokyo back in the day when the Tokyo Tower was being built. I've never seen the movie and I probably won't as I don't have time for leisure right now.

That's right I was refering to the movie set in Tokyo around the time of the Tokyo Tower being built or whatever. Enjoyed hearing about the other "Always" though. Saw it along time ago, and thought it was pretty good.

OK I have seen the movie and I was with a Japanese friend who did a little translating for me. I did enjoy it as I got an insite to the culture a little more. Movie starts off with some middle and highschool girls travelling down from Aomori(Did I get that right) to Tokyo to work. Movie is set in the early fifties, so people here didn't have much then. Can't imagine travelling all that way to Tokyo either. Would have been at least a 12 to 15 hour train trip then.

Poor cute girl gets hired to work as a car mechanic, when she actually requested to work as a secetary or a bike mechanic. Causes a slight problem in the beginning, but it gets sorted out. Seems as though it was standard practice for young people to go from the country to work in the city. Anyway there are a lot of subplots, but the movie did a god job of showing life as it really was at the time.

Actually heard an old Paul Anka song in the backround in one part of the movie as well as on old Japanese song that none of the young people these days cares to admit existed.
