Members,

I just arrived in Italy with a job offer at a school. The Questura told me I had to go to back to Canada, to get a work visa. The school told me that legal help may get me a permesso di soggiorno without returning to Canada for the visa. As well, a lawyer in Rome had told me much the same several months ago.

From the group I'd like to know about which lawyers to chose in Rome, the probability of getting a permesso this way, how long it would take. and what would the costs be roughtly.

Thank you for any information about this. All the best,

John Coghlan>

Sounds like a lot of hassle, and expensive.
I don't know if it's possible. You could try to get the school to let you work without one.
If it doesn't work out, let me know. I'm looking for American and Canadian teachers to teach on a cruise ship.

Could you provide more information about teaching opportunities on cruise ships?

Thanks!

Hi, well I have a client who's looking for teachers. They have to be American or Canadian. If you're interested send me a picture, cover letter and CV.

Sorry that it took me so long to reply. I have been busy with school here. I will email you the information in hopes that I get more information about the teaching opportunities.

Thanks!

Hi John, looks like everybody forgot about you once they heard about the cruise ship! This won't be much of an answer, but, since no one has that information on the list (neither do I), why don't you just contact a few lawyers and ask for their fee and the possibility of such a service?

Maybe there is some office that provides help (by way of information) to foreigners and they can give you some names, otherwise, look in the "pagine gialle" for immigrazione lawyers and call. They might have something like free consultations, though I won't count on it. If not, ask for the fee of an initial consultation, go there with all your questions and find out the fees and the time it would take if you do it through a lawyer, weigh it against the costs of going to Canada and the time that would take, and make your decision accordingly!

If you do find something out, I'd be most grateful if you share it on the forum, I might be in your situation next year as I'd love to go back to Italy and had a "situation" with permessi for many years!

In boc'al lupo
