Then yeah, that's a pretty good wage. I don't think I could hack those class hours though. Shocked

It is difficult. We do have a secretary and coordinator that help us quite a bit. We dont have after-hours obligations, so it is all over at three in the afternoon.

I did a Google and this is what I came up with:

http://www.mexconnect.com/mex_/travel/lwatts/lwcarmen.html

I am partly leaving Thailand because I am sick and tired of the HOT AND STEAMY tropical weather ALL YEAR LONG . I'm tired of sweating after only 3 minutes of being out doors.

It sounds like the weather in Ciudad Del Carmen is similar.

No thanks.

If I could find a school like that in Mexico City... that's another story.

What are the possibilities?

Crunching the numbers, the rate there in Cd. de Carmen is between 93 and 125 pesos per hour take home, which is good...one of the highest I've seen for outside Mexico City. In the business EFL circuit in Mexico City, that's average per hour pay, but you wouldn't be able to do that many hours per week because of travel time to the class. 35 per week max but you'd be practically living in your car, peseros, or the metro, and doing all split shifts.

A private colegio would put you in the same pay range, as well as some uni positions, but those jobs don't fall out of trees unfortunately.

I heard about a uni postion open, in a small town in a pine forrest, good pay, but it doesn't seem like you'd like teaching students who are the first in their families to finish high school, let alone start university... Rolling Eyes

If that's not the case, let me know.

Guy, thanks for spelling it out to the people on this site. The numbers are correct, but you didnt include the bonuses or the 50% housing allowance. We have two openings in this med-sized town with all the amenities. Our students are from the very highest socio-economic class.
